The Opus Dei (Latin for God’s Work) is a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. It was founded in Madrid in October 2, 1928 by Saint Josemaría Escrivá. The purpose of the Opus Dei is to contribute to the evangelical mission of the church, by helping faithful Christians live a life of faith through their ordinary everyday circumstances, especially by sanctifying their work.
The Opus Dei and its relationship with Gimnasio Cartagena De Indias
Gimnasio Cartagena de Indias is part of the Teaching Association (ASPAEN). In the ASPAEN institutions the Opus Dei has adopted its own style that is reflected in its Corporate Principles:
- The education given by ASPAEN is inspired by Christian beliefs, with total fidelity to the Teachings of the Catholic Church, within a clear secular purpose open to people of all religious beliefs.
- Human and Spiritual development is based on the spirit of the Opus Dei and focuses on guiding each person to reach the unity of life in an atmosphere of freedom with responsibility and a spiritual sense.
-
Parents are, by nature, the first and main teachers of their children. Based on this basic and universal principle, ASPAEN Gimnasio Cartagena de Indias, dedicates its first and greatest effort to the parents’ formation, while respecting their intimacy of their homes. Secondly, to the faculty’s formation, because teachers can become the parents' complement and can help them educate their daughters, only if the teachers themselves are spiritual formed, too; and finally, to the students.
-
The bond between the parents, faculty and students is essential to fulfilling the academic goal.
- A deep sense of respect, positive recognition of effort, virtues and human values, make up the atmosphere in which the education of ASPAEN Gimnasio Cartagena de Indias is generated.
- At the request from the ASPAEN promoters, Opus Dei is responsible for:
- the pastoral attention of the Gimnasio Cartagena de Indias
- The selection and training of the Religion & Morals teachers
- The spiritual and personal orientation of its students
-
In every institution there will be unification between management and corporate culture, while honoring the principles of the foundation.
- The government unit is collegial in style and based on trust.
- The institutional culture is based on:
- A job well done
- The happiness that derives from trust among people
- The spirit of service
- Constant innovation
