Gimnasio Cartagena de Indias, concerned about the human and Christian education of its students, includes in their academic plan a series of complementary activities that help strengthen the students in community leadership, which leads them to focus their talents and strengths on serving others.
The goal is to instill in students the true sense of social responsibility, by allowing them to take a close view of the social issues that take place in their community, and showing them how they can collaborate with people in need, by giving a small material contribution or spending part of their own free time to help them.
The school's solidarity activities are grouped into what is called: METAS: (Spanish acronym for: Student Movement for Community Work. The acronym spells out the workd meaning GOALS.)
This course is designed for the leaders of neighboring communities: Pontezuela, Tierra Baja, Puerto Rey, Manzanillo, La Boquilla and for teachers that work for public institutions in the education sector of the city. The objective is to train them in family issues. Thus the beneficiaries of these activities become multipliers in family-oriented matters.
SOCIAL ICFES (TEST)This community action project at GCI schools is for the northern zone: Manzanillo del Mar, Puerto Rey and Skinner de la Boquilla. It is a training program that brings specific courses to the students who are preparing for the Colombian scholastic aptitude test (ICFES).
